The Tower of Bai transports Federico García Lorca’s 1936 classic, The House of Bernarda Alba, from an Andalusian village to an Asian city, and sets it in 2036.
Following the death of her second husband, Leonarda Bai imposes eight years of mourning on her five daughters, sealing them away from the world outside.
At its heart, The Tower of Bai explores the struggle for individual agency in the face of repression, and what happens when the human spirit is controlled, confined and denied its freedom.
Although Lorca wrote this story 90 years ago, its themes feel startlingly relevant to the world we all live in today. Join us for a bold new reimagining of this extraordinary play, brought to life through an exciting, contemporary staging.
