Course details

This is a craft-based photography training course where film will be used as an experiential learning tool.

This course is a chance for budding photographers to learn to slow down, build confidence in manual shooting, train their exposure judgment, develop strong composition habits and teach visual discipline.

You are to bring 10 digital photos to the first class that you think represent your photography.

This course does not teach darkroom development.

About the trainer

Kris LeBoutillier

Kris LeBoutillier worked as a photojournalist in Singapore. He covered hard news stories like the 2004 Indonesian tsunami for Getty Images, as well as business news and portraits for Forbes and other international magazines and newspapers.

His images have been featured in renowned publications like National Geographic Traveler and Washington Post, among many others. He has exhibited his work in Singapore and at the Press Club in Cambodia.

Application information

You must have your own film camera and bring your own rolls of 35mm film. Any film camera with the ability to shoot on manual mode is welcome, from rangefinders to SLRs to point-and-shoots, preferably with an accompanying flash.

An internal or handheld light meter is optional but encouraged.

Estimated cost: $150 to $200 for buying and developing film, based on each student shooting 15 to 20 rolls of film across the entire course.

Anyone with a passion for learning the craft of film photography. Beginner to professional photographers who want to slow down and think about their photography.
